JEE Advanced

Conducted by one of the IITs on a rotating basis, for admission to the IITs. Only top JEE Main performers can sit it.

Exam pattern

  • Two compulsory papers, each with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, computer-based.
  • Question types and marking change each year: single-correct, multiple-correct, numerical and matching types, some with partial marking.

How to prepare for JEE Advanced

  • Concepts first: JEE Advanced rewards deep understanding of Class 11 and 12 topics over memorised formulas.
  • Practise multi-concept problems that combine two or three chapters.
  • Learn each year's question types, such as multiple-correct and matching, and their marking before you take a mock.
  • Review every paper for silly mistakes and for questions you should have skipped.
  • Stay consistent: a steady daily routine beats last-minute cramming.

JEE Advanced: frequently asked questions

Who can write JEE Advanced?

Only students who qualify through JEE Main and meet the eligibility rules in that year's brochure. Check jeeadv.ac.in.

How many papers are there?

Two compulsory papers, each covering Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.

Is the marking the same every year?

No. Question types and marking, including partial marking, change from year to year, so read the latest information brochure.

How is JEE Advanced different from JEE Main?

It has fewer questions but they are harder, test deeper concepts, and often use multiple-correct or other special formats.
