Privacy policy

Last updated 11 October 2026. This policy explains what personal data Lakshyank (lakshyank.com and the Lakshyank mobile app) collects, why, who sees it and what you can do about it. It follows the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and other Indian law that applies.

1. In short

  • We collect only what we need to run your account, your practice and tests, and payments.
  • We do not sell your data, and we do not show ads or build advertising profiles.
  • Teachers and schools you join can see your results in their tests.
  • You can ask to see, correct or delete your data at any time.

2. What we collect

  • Account details: name, email address, password (stored only as a one-way hash, never in plain text), and, for students, date of birth. If you sign in with Google we receive your name and email address from Google.
  • Your study profile: the exams you prepare for, or the subjects you teach, and a short "about me" if you are a teacher.
  • Your activity: the tests and practice you take, your answers, marks, time taken, ranks, questions you mark for review, ratings and problem reports you submit, and, in strict-mode tests, whether you left the test page.
  • Schools and teachers: the schools or coachings you join, and a teacher's referral code if you signed up with one.
  • Students under 18: a parent's or guardian's email address and mobile number, and a record of their consent (date and the address it came from).
  • Payments: the plan you bought, the amount, dates and the payment reference. Card, bank and UPI details are handled by our payment partner and are not stored by us.
  • Technical data: the device and browser type and IP address when you sign in, and, if you allow notifications in the app, a device token so we can send them.

3. Why we use it

  • To create your account, sign you in and keep it secure.
  • To run tests and practice, mark them, and show your results, rank and progress.
  • To let teachers and schools run their tests and see how their students did.
  • To take payments and give you the plan you bought.
  • To send you emails about your account (confirmation, password reset, receipts) and, if you allow them, notifications about new tests and results.
  • To get consent from a parent for students under 18, and to prevent misuse and fraud.
  • To improve Lakshyank, for example by finding questions that many students report.

We use your data because you gave your consent when you signed up or switched something on, because we need it to provide the service you asked for, or because the law requires it. You can withdraw consent by deleting your account.

4. Who can see it

  • Teachers and schools: your name and results in tests they run, and, if you join a school or coaching, that you are a member. They do not see your email address or date of birth.
  • Other students: only your name and rank where a leaderboard shows it.
  • Service providers that process data for us: Fly.io (hosting, Singapore), Supabase (database, Singapore), Cloudflare (network, email forwarding and storage of pictures), Brevo (sending emails), Razorpay (payments), and Google (Google sign-in and Firebase push notifications). They may only use the data to provide their service to us.
  • The law: we may share data when a court, the police or another authority lawfully asks for it.

Some of these providers run servers outside India (for example in Singapore), so your data may be processed there.

5. Students under 18

A student under 18 can use Lakshyank only after a parent or guardian gives consent through a code sent to their email. We do not track children's behaviour for advertising and we show no ads. A parent can write to us at any time to see, correct or delete their child's data.

6. Cookies and similar tools

We use one sign-in cookie to keep you signed in, and your device's local storage to remember choices such as light or dark mode. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.

7. How long we keep it

  • We keep your account data for as long as your account exists.
  • When you delete your account we erase your profile, sign-in, answers, attempts, memberships and parent-consent record. Copies in our backups are overwritten as the backups expire.
  • Payment records are kept for as long as tax and accounting law requires, without your name or email address once the account is deleted.
  • Tests and questions that a teacher created stay on Lakshyank for the students who use them, and then show the author as "Deleted user".

8. How we protect it

Connections to Lakshyank use HTTPS. Passwords are stored as hashes. Access to the database and servers is limited to people who need it. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong password and keep it private. If there is a data breach that affects you, we will tell you and the authorities as the law requires.

9. Your rights

You can ask us to show you the data we hold about you, to correct it, to delete it, to withdraw consent, and to nominate someone to exercise these rights for you if you cannot. You can do most of this yourself:

  • Correct your name, exams or subjects on your profile page.
  • Delete your account on the website, or in the app under "Me".
  • For anything else, write to support@lakshyank.com. We will confirm that we received your request within 7 days and reply fully as soon as we can.

If you are not satisfied with our reply, you can complain to the Data Protection Board of India once it is in place, as the Act provides.

10. Grievances and contact

For a complaint about how we handle your data, write to support@lakshyank.com with "Grievance" in the subject. Please include your account email address and what happened.

11. Changes

We may update this policy. The date at the top shows the latest version. If a change matters a lot, we will tell you on the site or by email.
